Personal Project: Richard Vantielcke

Photographer Richard Vantielcke defines himself as a "guardian of the surrealist painter RenĂ© Magritte heritage". He focuses of looking at urban architecture, conceptual photography, portrait and self-portrait photography. He specialises in night photography using many lighting effects and shadows to create mysterious and sometimes strange conceptual photography.

I really love the lighting in this image (below) and others of Vantielcke's. In this photo the light is slightly of centre and not at the subject matter like it might normally be. We can see that the light illuminates the ceiling showing industrial piping. I feel that he has included this and not vignetted it out like the other side to show us that it is a urban rundown area. He also hasn't vignetted out the left side as much as the right side, which shows us that this is a car park because of the two cars we see. I really like how we can't see through the doorway that the guy might have came through so it shows a mystery of how he might of been hurt. I feel I will really focus on creating lighting like this when taking my photographs because I also want to show mystery of crime and also look more into creating conceptual photographs like this to make the audience/ viewers think of how the situation could of happened, and or why it happened.
